customs cakes – that taste as good as they look!

Two days before my husband’s 40th birthday party  I was mentally scrolling through my to do list for the party:
venue booked – check,
photographer booked -check, costumes ordered- check,
cake – OMG I had forgotten to order a cake.

I had remembered a friend of mine mentioning she had a friend who did amazing birthday cakes so I got Stephanie’s number and tried my luck. Not only was Stephanie able to create a beautiful cake that matched our party theme perfectly but it also tasted delicious and the price was very reasonable (half of what a local bakery wanted to charge me for my “rush” job.

I now have a “cake lady” but I am willing to share contact Stephanie at scwkuan@hotmail.com or call her at 0122120819.

Below are some examples of her amazing work.

Camp 5 – Indoor Wall Climbing

I recently helped out with a friends sons birthday party, by transporting a very excited group of 11 year old boys to Camp 5 indoor climbing centre at One Utama.

Camp 5 is a state-of-the-art indoor climbing facility which can cater to all Levels. They offer basic wall courses, taster sessions right upto private coaching. One of their Mottos is ‘everyone can climb’ and based on the varying heights and difficulties of the many different walls, this would definitely seem to be the case. Though I must add that I did not think it necessary to prove their motto correct and most importantly my son would have found this very uncool!

When you arrive, you’re asked to fill out a standard waiver form and they then provide you with climbing shoes, harness and helmet. Safety is obviously very Important and they made sure the children were all very aware of this via the initial safety talk from the instructor. Once this was over there was no stopping them, while under guidance all the time, they tackled lots of the walls and cheered each other on with encouraging words. Of course there was also lots of discussion about who got to the top the fastest and via which route!

As this was part of the birthday package that is offered, the children had drinks, homemade beefburgers, pizza, popcorn and fruit. To top that all off, they also provided the beautiful homemade chocolate cake, complete with a decorative mini climbing wall on the top. If you’re looking for a venue which takes care of everything and removes the stress completely, then this would be it!

I have to mention the lovely cafe where we sat happily, watching the children climb. It serves a variety of drinks, smoothies and juices (all freshly prepared) and has a healthy homemade menu and daily specials board. I was particularly drawn to the
Vietnamese chicken salad!

Karaoke Party

I’m always looking for different party ideas and this year with my daughter turning 8, I decided I really needed a rocking idea. After much searching for my wannabe rockstar daughter I decided karaoke was the way to go. So my daughter, 5 of her closet friends and my husband and I headed down to Red Box where we had the best night ever. The girls could have easily sang all night and it was great that food and drink are supplied by the venue, making it a very easy party for the parents. However, to decide if a karaoke party is for your child this is what you need to know: to really enjoy the singing you need to keep the group to relatively small number. You only get three microphones and if kids need to wait too long if can get pretty boring. Secondly, make sure you are choosing kids who you think will really enjoy singing, dancing or wouldn’t mind watching their friends while they rock it out. Thirdly, check with the karaoke venue that they have the most recent music that your kids are into, while we can rock it out to Elvis it’s probably not so cool for the kids! Lastly, still have games. Even if your group of kids would be happy to sing all night, everyone loves games, especially the prizes and it also helps make sure all the kids are engaged and having fun.

On another note, this was the first year we didn’t have a whole class party, if this is the case for you and your kids aren’t sure about it remind them of all the benefits. For us, we made custom-made party shirts, that my daughter designed, which the kids loved and that looked absolutely awesome. Also we could afford to really amp up the party bags and prizes, as we were only do 6 bags opposed to 25. Finally, who doesn’t have the best time ever just hanging out with their closet friends!

Don’t forget to mention the age (height) of your kids as kids under 140cm are currently free.
