Legends – The Jackson’s in KL

So all the kids are excited that Santa is coming to town, but us 70′s and 80′s kids can be equally excited as The Jackson’s are performing in KL after nearly three decades. Their Unity tour promises to be rocking KL at Stadium Negara. So all you need to say is ‘I’ll be there’ and get yourself along on Thursday 13th December at 8pm.

20121205-220217.jpg

I have to say there’s not that many concerts that come to KL that i’d seriously consider attending, but these guys are true global superstars. Although my children may not agree, their music is timeless, unforgettable and their catalogue of hits huge. It wouldn’t be a struggle for most people to easily name at least six of their songs. I’d say its as easy as ‘ABC’…..!!

So….’Can you feel it?’…. if so all ticket purchases and concert information can be found by calling 03 7880 7999

Beauty and the Beast – The Musical

I say this all the time, but we really don’t get the opportunity often enough in KL to enjoy the theatre. We also miss some opportunities because advertisement of events in KL is not always that great!

So please don’t miss what i believe will be a fantastic family outing to the musical production of Beauty and the Beast at Sunway Lagoon Amphitheatre. Best of all is that its showing From December 1st until 31st December, every day except Wednesday at 7.30pm, giving you ample time to see it. As a family, we always like to do something special over the Christmas holidays and this would be perfect.

International Children’s day Celebrations

This weekend sees KL celebrating international children’s day. On Sunday 11th November from 10am, take the whole family along to Publika for fun performances, talks, entertainment, games, cool activities and more!

20121109-074311.jpg

As well as having fun, you’ll be supporting a fund raising campaign, initiated by the Diploma in Mass Communications students of KDU University College’s School of Communication and Creative Arts. They are collaborating with different charitable organisations that work towards the benefit of children aged 18 years old and below.

For directions and information on the venue visit http://www.publika.com.my/publika/home/index.php

National Science Centre

The National Science Centre is located in Bukit Kiara and is a great place to visit with your kids. As well as many different exhibits to both entertain and educate the kids, they also have a great indoor playcentre located in the heart of the building.

However, what I think is most exciting about the Science Centre is the outside playarea. This relevatively new area, as you can see, is designed around a large pool area and is a great place for the kids to run around and get a bit wet.

And instead of walking to the wet area, why not take the slide which goes from the top of the hill down to play area.

What’s really great about this outside area, unlike alot of parks, is it is very clean and all the equipment is in an excellent condition.

Since I last visited they have also put in some toddler playhouses right next to the water area. An absolute brilliant spot to hang out with your mother/baby group if your looking for a change of scenary.

For more info visit: http://www.psn.gov.my/

Hours of Operation: Monday – Thursday, Saturday – Sunday
9.00 am – 5.00 pm
Close on Fridays

Admission: RM6.00 adult (13 years and above)

RM3.00 child (7-12 years old)

Christmas Bazaars in KL

I’ve just calculated that its only 50 days until Christmas and I have given no thought at all to gifts, shopping or started to make any preparations. Normally, i would begin to panic and make endless lists but luckily, KL has various Christmas bazaars happening soon, which should help with gift ideas, decorations and put you in the Christmas spirit.

ASSOCIATION OF BRITISH WOMEN IN MALAYSIA

20121105-135925.jpg

This is always a large bazaar, selling an array of Christmas goodies, gifts, jewelry and edible festive treats. All proceeds go to local charities, so another reason to go along and support it. The kids will love to accompany you when they realize they can have a special visit with Santa!

AUSTRIAN-GERMAN-SWISS (AGS) ASSOCIATION

20121105-140513.jpg

This is their 27th annual charity christmas bazaar, being held on Saturday 1st December, 4pm-8pm, at the Luther Centre, Jalan Utara, Petaling Jaya. It’s Rm20 entrance per person and children under 12 are free.
They have handicrafts, cookies, candles, cakes, and Christmas treats. In addition there is a lucky draw and prize giveaways.

You can find directions and map to the venue at http://lcm.org.my/index.php?page=contact

IBU FAMILY RESOURCE GROUP

20121105-145314.jpg

The bazaar is being held Sunday 18th November from 10am-6pm at Art Row & Whitebox at Publika. It looks like a great family event, because as well as selling new, imported and handmade gifts, they have facepainting, trampolining, an indoor play area and that very important visit by Santa.
The venue for this is actually within the ‘Publika’ shopping mall on Jalan Dutamas 1, which I am a great fan of! After shopping overload at the bazaar, you can head to one of the many bars, restaurants and cafes for a well deserved drink. For directions visit their site

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAYS AT THE WILLOW TREE

20121105-113933.jpg

I think this is a wonderful idea, which i believe has been happening on a regular basis for the last couple of months. The Willow Tree in Desa Sri Hartamas is a great restaurant which opens its doors to various vendors to come in and sell their products ranging from personalized towels, jewelry, shoes and items for the home. You can browse the stalls and catch up with friends whilst enjoying a coffee. Perfect shopping conditions!

Hope this helps you enjoy some happy and relaxed Christmas shopping!!

Family Time – PJ sports Complex

I’m sure I am not alone in struggling at the weekend to find a relaxing family day out in KL which meets everyone’s requirements and won’t cost a small fortune. We seem to have endless debates of where’s best and of course an agreement can never be reached!

So, I was recently delighted to rediscover PJ Palms Sports Centre, in Petaling Jaya, which has so many options under one roof, I think it makes for a perfect family outing. For those of you who have been in KL a while, you will probably know it or heard it referred to as ‘Out Of Africa’, which is the name of the restaurant within the complex which has been there for some time. When I went a while back the whole complex was a very sad, unappealing and neglected place with just the restaurant (which was great) surrounded by an empty swimming pool and unused shop fronts. However, time and money has been invested and it’s been transformed to a high standard. Judging by the very small amount of people there when i visited, it’s still a bit of a hidden gem!

For those that are looking for some sports activities, there’s something here for everyone. The clean and well kept complex boasts a beautiful 50m pool, kids pool with slide, cricket lanes, futsal court, squash courts, gym and diving centre called Seamonkey Scuba, which offers diving lessons in the 50m pool. Each of these has its own costs which you can find through the website but even if you just fancy making use of the pool its only Rm6 for adults and Rm4 for kids.

20121102-072008.jpg

The company that runs the gym is called Fitworx. It’s well equipped and they offer everything you’d expect from a larger commercial gym, including classes, use of the pool and personal training but at a fraction of the cost. You can contact them at http://www.fitworx.com.my/

20121101-174214.jpg

Once you’ve worked up an appetite or are tired of lounging around the pool area, you have to do no more than stroll over to the restaurant and bar ‘Out Of Africa’. It serves a wide range of authentic African foods such as boerewers and bobotie, steaks and seafood and caters well For kids. All our meals were delicious and I can personally recommend the steak pie which was superb. You can choose to eat on the terrace, in the air-conditioned dining room or outside in the beer garden right next to the pool. The plus side to eating outside is you can easily watch the kids in the pool or while they play in the small playground. If you are looking for a child friendly restaurant in KL I think you’ll be hard pushed to beat this. Visit their website http://www.outofafrica.com.my/
