National Science Centre

The National Science Centre is located in Bukit Kiara and is a great place to visit with your kids. As well as many different exhibits to both entertain and educate the kids, they also have a great indoor playcentre located in the heart of the building.

However, what I think is most exciting about the Science Centre is the outside playarea. This relevatively new area, as you can see, is designed around a large pool area and is a great place for the kids to run around and get a bit wet.

And instead of walking to the wet area, why not take the slide which goes from the top of the hill down to play area.

What’s really great about this outside area, unlike alot of parks, is it is very clean and all the equipment is in an excellent condition.

Since I last visited they have also put in some toddler playhouses right next to the water area. An absolute brilliant spot to hang out with your mother/baby group if your looking for a change of scenary.

Easiest Playdough Recipe Ever

This is without a doubt the easiest playdough recipe you’ll ever come across. Not only will you likely have all the ingredients in your pantry, but it requires no cooking and it’s so simple that kids can even make it!

Ingredients

2 cups plain flour

1 cup salt

1 cup of cold water

1 tablespoon cooking oil

2 drops of food colouring

Method

Combine the flour and salt in a bowl. Add oil, food colouring and water. Mix until all ingredients are combined. Knead the dough until smooth and workable. If it is too wet add a little more flour.

This playdough recipe makes enough dough for about 4 commercial size playdough containers. A great way to get a range of playdough colours is to organise with your playgroup or friends to cook a batch each then switch colours. However, if you are making it for yourself and want more than one colour I suggest halving the recipe and doing one colour per half.

And here’s our playdough. The colours are vibrant, it’s cheap to make and best of all my kids had a great time playing with it!

The Club @ Bukit Utama

In the last six months we have really been making a point of having alot of outside activities for our playgroup and one place we keep coming back to is The Club @ Bukit Utama. The Club has  fabulous kids pools, which kids of all ages can enjoy. For the little kids, the playground pool is fantastic, as the pool entrance is a gentle slope, rather than stairs, which means they can run in and out without the danger of falling. This little pool is also great for the parents as it is situated right next to the coffee shop tables, which means if your children are happy to swim without you, you can enjoy a coffee and a chat, while still being right next to them. The Club also has a pool for older children with a big water slide and a 50 metre pool for anyone keen to do laps. The great thing about The Club is that the entrance fee is very cheap, it serves reasonable priced food and if you go during the week there is hardly anyone there. The Club also does great kid’s parties.

Book Day!

This week for Playgroup we decided to have a book theme. Each child brought a gift wrapped book that was exchanged with another child’s gift wrapped book (kris kringle style) Parents brought books to swap and each parent brought a list of their :

  1. favorite toddler books
  2. favorite children’s
  3. favorite novels
  4. latest read novels
  5. favorite parenting books
  6. husband/partner’s favorite books (gift ideas)

Receiving a gift at playgroup was a big treat for the toddlers and discussing and swapping books was great for the mums.  Nice idea to try every 6 months or so especially for those of us who find a monthly commitment to a book club frightening!!
